FUSILLI is the acronym for Fostering the Urban food System Transformation through Innovative Living Labs Implementation. It’s claim urban food planning underlines a project on food system transformation funded by the European Horizon 2020 Program. It started in January 2021 and will end in December 2024.
FUSILLI brings together 34 partners from 13 countries - foundations, universities, research centers, non-governmental organizations, local associations and companies and entities from the agri-food sector - plus 12 cities. CARTIF (Spain) is the leading partner, Rome is one of the pilot cities, with Roma Capitale as local government with the technical support of Risorse per Roma spa, also partner.
FUSILLI supports the cities and their peri-urban areas with the aim of establishing a strong cooperation for sharing the knowledge and practices and to face the challenges of food system transformation. The main objective is to achieve an integrated and safe holistic transition to healthy, sustainable, safe, inclusive, equitable and cost-efficient food system through feasible and replicable innovative urban policies
FUSILLI is creating an "Urban Living Lab", a participatory planning workshop, in each of the participating cities. In this open ecosystems of innovation, disruptive and concrete actions will be implemented to develop and apply urban food policies, with the involvement of all the actors of the food system at the local level. Roma Capitale will chair the LL, while Risorse per Roma will be in charge of its coordination.
FUSILLI will help every city in building its Urban Food Plan and in creating a Plan of Actions covering all the stages of the food value chain: production and processing, distribution and logistics, consumption, loss and waste of food and governance. In fact, the Farm to Fork Strategy is at the heart of the European Green Deal aiming to make food systems fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly.
FUSILLI addresses the four political priorities of the EU's research and innovation policy to transform food systems FOOD 2030: Nutrition for sustainable and healthy diets; Ecological and climate-sustainable food systems; Circularity and resource efficient food systems; Community innovation and empowerment.
FUSILLI Rome LL will support and work in synergy with the Food Policy resolution of Rome which was approved by the City Assembly on the 27th of April 2021 and the Agrifood strategic plan presented by the City Council on the 26th of May 2021.
