Split’s URBACT Local Group members participate in the meeting
The partners of the RU:RBAN network had the opportunity to meet in the wonderful Croatian city of Split on September 28th-29th for the fourth Transnational Meeting of the network. Representatives and ULG members of all five cities participated in the meeting with great enthusiasm after the pandemic restrictions in place when the project was launched in summer 2021.
“Rurbaneers” were in for quite an intense two-day initiative - the last one before the final meeting of the network in Rome in November - with study visits and a series of important sessions aimed at showcasing the sate of things in terms of capacity building achievements and governance developments in each city. Particularly interesting were the presentations by ULG members of Split of bottom-up initiatives for the use of city’s public urban space for gardening and socializing, and the Erasmus K2 Urban Permaculture Course developed by PermaKultura Dalmacija. These moments highlighted the multifaceted characteristic of urban gardens and its positive impact on citizens. The Regulation of Urban gardens are almost complete in each of the four transfer cities and the final result will be presented in Rome in November. ULG members of all five cities also had the opportunity to participate in a full-day Gardeniser training session which contributed to emphasize the relevance of this professional figure within the management of an urban garden.
The study visits to the Skalice school garden and the Marjan Hill gardens gave partners the chance to exchange information with the students and the gardeners involved in the setting up and management of the gardens, while the visit to the Botanical garden of Split and the Olive Museum were opportunities to see some of the excellences of Split in terms of design and successful management of local products.
